Mary and Demian hosted the most incredible engagement party for their friends Vicki and John, who are getting married at the end of March in Vicki’s home country of Argentina. The incredible spread of gastronomy included a delectable baked salmon, seared ahi tuna, marinaded and grilled skewered prawns, smoked salmon with dill cream cheese on bread, jamon (of course), coca (the Catalan version of pizza), homemade guacamole and chips, mini steak with arugula and horseradish brioche sandwiches, and the you-just-can’t-eat-one mini cheeseburgers! Mary even found Argentinian and English beer for everyone! Honestly everyone, Mary is an incredible dynamo in the kitchen, I couldn’t have a better teacher at this point.

The night was perfectly punctuated by a game Mary created which separated all the Spanish and English speakers into two teams: Team Argentina and Team England. A series of questions about Argentina and England were then posed to the teams, and the game got quite heated!

In a surprising upset Shanti beat Iratxe (a Basque) to give Team England a clear and decisive victory over Team Argentina. The extra 50 points was won in a gulping match between Shanti and the well-known seasoned drinker Iratxe. Apparently all people from Basque are good drinkers, and for all of you who know Shanti… well she is not. The drink was a full glass of ‘calimocho’- half red wine and half Coca Cola. We know you cannot believe it unless you see it, so a video clip is included.

A great party with a lovely spread of tapas and plenty of bebidas for everyone. Congratulations Vicki and John!
