Sonar

Sónar is a very popular international music festival held every year in Barcelona and features new and advancing music. The Sónar website describes the festival as ‘three days and three nights in touch with the most up-to-date developments and featuring the most relevant national and international artists. Sónar is the essential meeting point for an alert public, cutting-edge artists and the most influential professionals from the sectors of music and modern arts.’ The music is techno, electronica, new-age, funk, house, hip hop that kind of stuff, really any kind of avant garde music. And there are a lot of international DJs spinning throughout the festival as well.
We read in the paper that the Beastie Boys were going to be at Sónar this year, promoting their new instrumental only album called The Mix-Up. We knew right then and there that we wanted to go and see them. It was easy to buy our tickets and board the special buses which would take us directly to the venue.
The Sonar By Night venue is huge, over 100,000 square feet where there are at least four different acts going on at once, plus food stands, bars and entertainment such as bumper cars.
I cannot tell you how fantastic the B Boys were. They played old and new material, and when they played the crowd’s favourites, everyone would jump to the music. It was the best workout I’ve had in months! For all you B Boy fans out there, the highlights were: Fight for your right, Hey ladies, Check your head, Super disco breakin’, Body moving, Money maker, Brass monkey, So what’cha want and Intergalactic. And of course Mix Master Mike was sensational and Money Mark was off the hook. “THREE MCs AND ONE DJ!!”
50 Euros well spent!
